Sunday 8 March · 5:00pm · Philip Carter Family Auditorium, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū
Let the sound carry you where words cannot go.
A profound close to the festival week. A Sea of Peace is a contemplative concert weaving together original music, narrative, and atmospheric sound. A creation story unfolds, accompanied by a rich tapestry of voice, piano, harmonium, drums, bass, flute, and guitar. Between the melodies, elemental instruments like gong, rain stick, ocean drum, tongue drum and singing bowls evoke the primal textures of earth and sky. A living invocation of peace, carried by sound and silence alike.
What to Expect
A spacious and soulful evening. Voice is at the heart of this offering: pure, spacious, and unadorned. Layered harmonies, solo voices, and mantra-like refrains weave through piano, gongs, bowls, guitar, and percussion to create a rich tapestry of resonance.
Presented by Wisdom-Light Ensemble
Wisdom-Light Ensemble is a collective of international singers, musicians, and sound artists from New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Benin, Serbia, Bosnia, and Wales, united by a shared devotion to sound as a sacred language. They do not perform to impress. They sing and play to open a doorway into stillness, beauty, and the mystery of sound as living story.
Presented as a gift to the community, their concerts are offered in the spirit of peace for the soul of the listener, and the soul of the world.
